Whether you run a small business or work within a global corporation, engaging with the media is a powerful way to raise your brand’s profile and get your name out there. Done well, it not only allows you to showcase what your business offers and reach potential new customers, but it can also demonstrate your expertise, introduce the people behind the business, and position you at the top of your game.

Think about BBC News, everyday experts are interviewed to give their views on trending topics and insight into the daily news agenda.

However, we know that speaking to journalists can feel daunting, especially if it’s new to you, and speaking in front of a camera or microphone is a unique pressure that few of us are used to.

That’s where professional media training comes in, helping you know what to expect, feel prepared to speak to the media, and navigate any awkward questions. Whether it’s for an article in your local paper, a podcast, or a major segment on national television, the right interview skills training can make all the difference.

Below, we break down what our media training courses contain and who could benefit from it.

What is media training?

Our media training services are designed to build your confidence and help you present yourself effectively to the media, ensuring your key messages and expertise come through clearly.

It can be used to prepare for a variety of scenarios including TV interviews, radio, print, podcasts, social media video content, or even speaking to audiences at events. The training helps you develop practical interview techniques, strengthen your spokesperson skills, and feel fully prepared to communicate your brand effectively.

Who needs media training?

Media training is valuable for anyone representing a company in the media or in public. This might include directors, CEOs, or subject experts within a particular sector or department. Executive media training is particularly useful for people in leadership roles who are expected to speak on behalf of their business, particularly in times of crisis.

Think about the people you see interviewed on the news – often titled ‘CEO’ or ‘Head of’ within a company. These are the individuals journalists turn to for knowledge and insight, and training helps position them as credible, authoritative voices in their field.

What does media training look like?

Our team of former journalists and experienced media spokespeople explain how different areas of the media operate, how journalists approach interviews, and what they expect from interviewees. This gives you a clear understanding of the media landscape and how to position yourself effectively.

Through interactive workshops, attendees receive practical guidance on press interview preparation, from the key questions to ask beforehand to refining your core messages. You’ll learn how to stay on track, handle challenging questions, and communicate with clarity and authority so your message lands as intended.

We also cover how the media handles high-pressure or crisis communication situations, where timing and messaging are critical. You’ll gain the tools to respond quickly and confidently while protecting your brand and reputation, with the same preparation and control as an everyday interview.

Will it be delivered in-person or online?

Our media training is delivered in person and can be fully tailored to your needs, with a focus on building confidence through hands-on experience. Sessions combine expert-led theory with realistic, live interview practice across TV, radio, print, podcasts, and social media scenarios.

Each participant takes part in recorded interviews and receives detailed feedback on the day, along with personalised recommendations. Recordings are shared afterwards so you can review your performance and continue improving.

Whether you’re preparing for proactive media opportunities, responding to press enquiries, creating social content, or speaking at events, our training ensures you understand your key messages and can deliver them confidently in any setting.

How long does media training take?

Our media training can be delivered as either a full or half‑day course and works best with groups of up to four participants. The training is delivered by two specialists, each with more than a decade of experience working in the media.

Do I need any equipment for media training?

The short answer is no. All camera and recording equipment is included in the cost, and the training includes providing links where attendees can download recordings of their interviews for future reference.

All we ask for is a minimum of two rooms, with at least one in a quiet area with little background noise and preferably no passing office traffic.

Why is media training beneficial?

Media training is valuable for any organisation with people who may need to engage with the media and communicate confidently on behalf of the business. Below are five key benefits:

  1. Builds confidence by helping you feel prepared and assured when speaking to journalists across TV, radio, print, podcasts or social media.
  2. Improves message delivery by teaching you how to communicate key points clearly and concisely so they land as intended.
  3. Prepares you for difficult questions, giving you the tools to handle unexpected or challenging enquiries with control.
  4. Strengthens your professional presence and positions both you and your organisation as credible, knowledgeable and media ready.
  5. Equips you to handle high pressure situations and crisis communications, helping you respond quickly while protecting your brand.
