It’s also National Apprenticeship Week, which is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have.
Monday 3rd – It’s Clean Monday, also known as Pure Monday, Ash Monday or Monday of Lent. It is the first day of Eastern Orthodox Christian Lent and refers to the leaving behind of sins or non-fasting foods.
It’s the memorial service for Nelson Mandela at Westminster Abbey in London. 1,800 people are expected to attend, including David Cameron and Prince Harry.
And Oscar Pistorius’ trial begins in South Africa. A TV channel dedicated to showing 24-hour rolling footage of the trial has been launched in the country.
Tuesday 4th – It’s Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Day. Expect PR stories on the world’s largest or most expensive pancake.
Wednesday 5th – Former US president Bill Clinton will be honoured by Queen’s University Belfast for his role during the peace process in Northern Ireland.
Thursday 6th – It’s World Book Day, which encourages children to enjoy reading at an early age.
Friday 7th – It’s the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympic Games 2014 in Sochi.
