What will be in the Headlines this week? It’s the week ahead
It’s Eating Disorder Week. This year, dance troupe Diversity has teamed up with national eating disorders charity Beat to promote the ‘Sock it to Eating Disorders’ campaign, encouraging people to hold silly sock days and events.
Monday 24th –The GSMA Mobile World Congress opens in Barcelona. Among the launches of various new smartphones, a certain Mark Zuckerberg will be speaking.
Also, the UK’s top brands will be revealed by Superbrands, Rolex and Apple were last year’s winners.
Tuesday 25th – Following London it’s the opening of Paris Fashion Week. And, it’s 50 years since Cassius Clay, later Muhammad Ali, was crowned as boxing’s heavyweight champion of the world.
Wednesday 26th – The Russian LGBT Sports Federation stages the first Russian Open Games, where members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community will compete in eight different events: badminton, basketball, futsal, skiing, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
And Sacha Baron Cohen brings back his Ali G character on the FXX network show ‘Rezurection’.
Thursday 27th – Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, will make an official visit to the UK, addressing MPs and Lords in Parliament and meeting The Queen.
Friday 28th– The Rio Carnival begins in Brazil’s second largest city. The festival has the highest attendance rate in the world, with 2.5 million visitors a year.
