Aberfield’s weekly “what’s on” guide

Monday 6th – It’s Blue Monday, the most popular time of year for people to break up with their partners, change jobs and quit their new year’s resolutions.

Also, applications for the London Marathon open and the Louvre will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mona Lisa’s return to the museum after being stolen for two and half years. Expect dull stories around “one of the most legendary art heists in history.”

Tuesday 7thThe National Television Awards shortlists are announced and it’s the annual International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas – cue excitement from tech journos.

Wednesday 8thNominations are announced for the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTAs).

Thursday 9th – The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee announces its decision on the bank base rate. Even we can safely predict it’s going to stay the same.

Friday 10thBBC’s Sound of 2014 will name this year’s brightest young star. Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J are among the list of previous winners.

Sunday 12thIt’s the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles and the 2014 Masters snooker tournament will begin at Alexandra Palace.
